Fire Festival - 2009

Date: Friday, July 10, 2009 (Opening ceremonies & firefighter competitions)

Activities:

Firefighter Combat Challenge: The Toughest 2 Minutes in Sports

Firefighters from across the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia show off their skills and compete for personal glory in what is called "the toughest 2 minutes in sports." Competitors must climb a 5-story tower, hoist, chop, drag hoses and rescue a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock. Kids Challenge

Children of all ages can safely experience the thrills and excitement of the big challenge on an inflatable ground-level kids' course.

Mascot Challenge

Mascots from your favorite professional and college teams face off on the Kids' Challenge course.

Antique Fire Trucks

Antique fire trucks from the Last Resort Fire Department will be on display along Occidental Mall and Main Street.

Seattle Fire Department Museum

The Seattle Fire Department Museum, located in SFD Headquarters at the corner of 2nd Ave. South & S. Main St, will be open during the Fire Festival on Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Eight antique rigs will be on display - six belonging to the SFD, and two LRFD rigs, as well as a room full of firefighting artifacts, photos and Seattle Fire Department memorabilia. Members of the Last Resort Fire Department will be on hand to give tours and to answer questions.

Klondike Gold Rush Adventure

Travel back to 1897 to pan for gold and mount your own expedition with sled dogs into the Yukon goldfields.

Music and Entertainment

Enjoy contemporary and turn-of-the-century musical performances on the main stage in Occidental Park.
